Does my child need a backpack?
Usually the children bring a backpack or another type of bag to school. The children typically bring home 3-4 papers and a craft daily so it's nice to have a bag to put them in.
Is there a snack time? If so, what do the children eat?
Yes, there is a snack time. At the beginning of each month each child is responsible for bringing in enough snack for the entire class. This can be individually packaged snacks such as fruit snacks, gold fish, granola bars etc. In addition to your monthly snack, please consider bringing in bulk items such as graham crackers, animal cookies, crackers etc. to share. This helps cover our extra hungry days. There is also a fridge available if you would like to bring cheese, yogurt, or fruit. You can also opt out of bringing snack by adding $5 to your monthly tuition.
How do I know how much snack to bring?
If your child has 12 classmates, bring 12 granola bars or 12 fruit snacks. You can also bring in a bulk item and the teacher will store it.
My child has special food allergies, what do they eat at snack time?
Children with special food needs are in charge of bringing in their own snack that is separate from the other students' snack. Many times students bring in a small container filled with their own snacks that can be kept at the school rather than having to pack a special snack for each school day.

What is the difference between the 1st year and 2nd year program?
The first year program focuses on preparing your child for their educational journey. First year curriculum consists of a letter paper, number paper, and craft each day. In addition to the first year basics, the second year program uses a more advanced curriculum that includes letter and number writing as well as phonics. This includes learning the concepts necessary to read.
What if my child is 4, but I do not think they are ready for the 2nd year program?
Every child matures at a different level. Here are JNP we want your child to have the best education experience. You may choose to place you child in a 1st or 2nd year program depending on what you are most comfortable with.
When will my child be in reader books?
Every child is tested periodically throughout the school year on their knowledge of letters and sounds. When they are able to recognize every letter and its sound, and have shown the ability to progress through a set of readers, they will begin bringing home reader books they have completed at school. Typically students that are ready are in 2nd yr classes. Parents are encouraged to practice the books at home with their child. Every child learns at a different pace and it is not expected that each student will begin reader books before kindergarten.
